IUHPST Statement on the Alarming Situation of Science and Technology in Argentina
The Council of the International Union for History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IUHPST), DHST’s parent organization, has addressed a letter to Argentinian government authorities expressing grave alarm about the future of the country’s science and technology ecosystem. In December 2023, Argentina’s new federal administration terminated the country’s Ministry of Science and Technology. From that moment on, the country’s science and technology system has been increasingly imperiled by an unrelenting sequence of blows: huge budget cuts, sudden discontinuation of programs, and mass layoffs, among other overtly hostile actions, all of which amount to an unprecedented, full-scale attack on the country’s science and technology institutions and their workers. In issuing the letter, the IUHPST joins dozens of other international scientific and scholarly organizations alarmed by this unacceptable state of affairs, including the International Science Council.
