DHST is the Division of History of Science and Technology of the International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IUHPST). It was founded in 1947 as the International Union of History of Science, under the auspices of UNESCO, and became a member of the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU), one of the predecessors of today’s International Science Council (ISC). Although its origins can be traced to the International Academy of the History of Science, an individual-membership organization founded in 1931, the Union was conceived from the outset as a worldwide federation of national communities of historians of science. In 1955, it became one of two divisions, alongside the Division of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science, within the newly established International Union of History and Philosophy of Science. In the twenty-first century, both divisions added “Technology” to their names, reflecting the evolution of the disciplines and their broadened intellectual scope.
